The Mayan civilization of Mexico and Central America flourished for over a millennium and at its peak was one of the world's most populated and culturally dynamic societies. It created soaring pyramids, sprawling cities and their glyphs were the only written language of Pre-Columbian America. The Maya never completely disappeared and their descendants maintain many of their ancient beliefs and traditions. Our images include all the major monuments of the classic Mayan World including their distinctive sculpture and written glyphs; plus our images show the Maya of today seen in their traditional dress at colorful markets and festivals.
